1. What two titles does God use for His Messiah in verse 1? What do each of these titles tell us about Jesus?
2. What does the Father say that Jesus will do in verse 1? Is this important to you? Why or why not?
3. What four things does the Father say that Jesus will not do in verses 2-3? What does this tell us about how Jesus uses His power?
4. Verse 1 mentions the nations and verse 4 mentions the islands – these terms refer to people outside of God’s covenant community. Why is it so important that Jesus will bring justice to these people?
5. What qualifications does God list for Himself in verse 5? Why do these accomplishments make it reasonable for us to believe what He says?
6. In verse 6, the Father speaks to His Servant, Jesus. What three things does the Father say He will do for Jesus?
7. What assignment does the Father give to Jesus in verse 7? Why is it important that Jesus does these things for us?
8. In verse 8, God mentions His name, which comes from the Hebrew verb, “to be.” His name thus means something like, “The One Who Is,” or “The Self-existing One.” Why does God’s name make the worshipping of anyone or anything else ridiculous?
9. What does God claim He is able to do in verse 9? Why does this set Him apart from any other idols people might worship?
