Strong and Courageous
Joshua 1:1-9

Review:
1. We can have success not because we are skilled, but because we serve a great God Who is with us
2. We can have success not in everything we attempt, but only when we are doing God’s will, fighting God’s battles
3. We can have success not if we are divided in heart and mind, but only if we stick close to God, consistently obeying His Word

Go further – Read Psalm 1
1. What three things does verse 1 say that righteous people do not do?
2. In Hebrew, the verb “to walk” was used to describe someone’s whole manner of life. What do you think it means to walk in the counsel of wicked people?
3. Why would it be a problem to listen to people who scoff at God and His Word?
4. How does verse 2 describe the attitude of the righteous toward God’s Law? What does it say the righteous man does with God’s Law?
5. To what does verse 3 compare righteous people? Why do you think God’s Law has a similar affect on people as water does for plants?
6. What promises does verse 3 make for those who live according to God’s Word?
7. To what does verse 4 compare the wicked? How is the absence of water for plants similar to the absence of God’s Word for people?
8. Verse 5 describes the judgment of the wicked. Who is doing the judging? Why does this make it important for people to study God’s Law?
9. What does verse 5 say will happen to the wicked? How is this a direct contrast with the promise to the righteous in verse 3?
10. What promise does verse 6 make to the righteous? Of what does it warn the wicked?

Apply:
1. What promises of God have been especially meaningful to you? How have you drawn on these promises to help you determine the direction of your life?
2. How might you incorporate more meditation on God’s Word into your daily life? What changes might you need to make to spend more time in study and prayer?
3. Given what Psalm 1 says, why do you think it is so important to surround yourself with people who are trying to live in a godly way?
