Crossing the Jordan
Joshua 3:1-17; 4:10b-18
Review:
1. Many of the problems that face us are as impossible as the Jordan River was impossible for the Israelites to cross.
2. Many of God’s commands seem to be irrational to us, just as there was no way a purification ritual or carrying around the Ark of the Covenant could get the people across the Jordan
3. But the good news is that God Himself can do the impossible, clearing away everything that keeps us from doing His will
4. At the same time, God encourages us and expects us to do what is possible to advance the cause of His kingdom
Go Further: Read Matthew 17:14-23
1. In verses 14-16, what problem did Jesus’ disciples find impossible to solve?
2. In verse 17, who do you think Jesus is calling faithless or unbelieving?
3. Why do you think He asks them how long He will be with them?
4. In verse 18, how did Jesus solve this impossible problem?
5. In verse 20, how does Jesus explain the disciples’ inability to solve this problem?
6. What does Jesus say even a little bit of faith can do? Where do you think that faith must be placed for it to have such power?
7. In verse 21, what did Jesus specifically say the disciples needed to do to cast out that particular demon? Why do you think those things are necessary to accomplish such an impossible task?
8. In verses 22 and 23, what did Jesus predict was going to happen to Him? Given his questions in verse 17, what does Jesus’ tell us about our responsibilities today?
Apply:
1. How has God shown Himself strong for you? What impossible problems has God solved for you?
2. How have God’s miracles encouraged you to do what you can for His glory and for the good of others?
3. How do you think God is calling you to trust in Him today?
